How to Keep Your Smile in Tip-Top Shape During Winter Activities

Posted .

Even though winter isn’t quite approaching, you can still prepare for it. In fact, there are things you should know now so you can maintain a strong and healthy smile during the winter season. One of those things is how to protect your smile while you participate in winter sports and activities. That way you can go out and have fun without having to worry about doing your smile protection research.

While you’re participating in your winter activities, our dentist, Dr. Christopher Pavletic, first recommends wearing a mouth guard. A mouthguard is a strong appliance that can protect your teeth when they are hit with hard, forceful objects. There are many mouthguards that can help you, including stock, boil-and-bite, and custom mouthguards.

Second, avoid blows to the face as much as possible. This might be a tough task when you’re skiing, sledding, or even having a snowball fight. Accidents happen occasionally and the mouth suffers blows to the face. It’s best to avoid these as much as possible. However, if you don’t and you’re wearing a mouthguard, your teeth, gums, and smile will be protected.
